Big Tech's market dominance may push more investors to equal-weight exchange-traded funds, according to VettaFi's Todd Rosenbluth. Rosenbluth lists the Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight ETF and the Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight Technology ETF as options for investors who want to reduce exposure to the "Magnificent Seven." "You own the same companies that you'd find within the S&P 500 or in the technology sector. But instead of being dominated by Apple and Microsoft and Nvidia, you spread that risk around to the other companies," Rosenbluth said. CNBC's Magnificent 7 Index, which is comprised of Apple, Alphabet, Meta , Microsoft , Amazon , Nvidia and Tesla , soared almost 6% Friday.

Long-term yields might be the best bond investment this year, according to one exchange-traded fund expert. "The iShares 20-year Treasury ETF (TLT ) will get the biggest bang for its buck [and] some of the intermediate-term products like the Vanguard Intermediate-Term Corp Bond (VCIT ) will get some bang for the buck," VettaFi's Todd Rosenbluth told CNBC's "ETF Edge" on Monday. Rosenbluth added that while the short-term products were very popular last year, they will "largely tread water or earn a little more than their overall income." The firm's head of research reasons that if the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates more than expected then investors should stay in longer-term products to benefit. "We saw a lot of money start to move out of the short end of the curve into intermediate duration," said Slavin, the company's global head of ETFs.

BNY Mellon's global head of ETFs suggests exchange-traded funds using options overlays could become next year's hot product. "We are absolutely going to see more of these options-based products come to market," Ben Slavin told CNBC's "ETF Edge" on Monday. "We see it in our own book." Options overlays are a way for investors to hedge against downside. "Ultimately, there's going to be more issuers that are continuing to chase this trend that we're seeing," Slavin said.

The ETF flowdown: 2023 is back on pace to be a solid year

watch nowDespite a sluggish start to the year, a record number of product launches and a red-hot November have put 2023 back on pace to be a solid year for ETFs. Roughly $1 trillion has gone into money market funds this year, but some are questioning whether the solid year-end stock rally will attract some of those flows back into equities. "You saw that enormous cash pileup going into money markets, and ETF flows were muted. "We talked about the money market funds," he said. He pointed to strong inflows into high-yield ETFs such as the iShares iBoxx $ High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (HYG) and SPDR Bloomberg High Yield Bond ETF (JNK) and SPDR Bloomberg Short Term High Yield Bond ETF (SJNK) — along with dividend ETFs such as the Pacer U.S. Cash Cows 100 ETF (COWZ).

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is screening imports of cinnamon from multiple countries for toxic lead contamination after growing reports of children who were sickened after eating pouches of applesauce and apple puree. But the agency noted there have not been other reports of illness or elevated blood lead levels tied to the spice that's popular in holiday baking. One pouch of recalled WanaBana apple cinnamon puree collected from a Dollar Tree store was found to have lead levels more than 200 times higher than proposed FDA guidance would allow, officials said. Consumers should be aware that cinnamon may contain lead, she said, but the FDA's release on Friday said there’s no indication that cinnamon products other than the applesauce puree are affected. The recalled fruit products include pouches of WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree and Schnucks and Weis brand cinnamon applesauce.

"Consequently, there is a risk that current and emerging impacts to cultural heritage are not being readily identified and/or appropriately managed," ERM said. The audit also found nearly half of Rio's assets lacked access to appropriately qualified and experienced cultural heritage expertise within the business. Cultural heritage management should not be contracted out because ownership of decisions should reside at Rio Tinto, ERM said. The global miner needed to improve and make more consistent its cultural heritage planning around water management and around closure of its operations, it added. The report followed an audit of 37 Rio Tinto assets.
SYDNEY, March 15 (Reuters) - Australia's five largest pension funds were not doing enough to push fossil fuel companies toward decarbonisation, activist investor group Market Forces said on Wednesday, arguing their environmental commitments could amount to greenwashing. The term 'greenwashing' describes exaggerated and misleading claims that suggest an entity are stewards of the environment without real action. Market Forces said in a new report AustralianSuper, Commonwealth Super Corp, Australian Retirement Trust, Aware Super and AMP, which cumulatively manage more than A$1 trillion ($668 billion) in savings, had failed to "demonstrate effective engagement strategies". Commonwealth Super Corp, Australian Retirement Trust, Aware Super and AMP did not immediately respond to a Reuters request seeking comment. Australia's corporate regulator has ramped up action against greenwashing, last month accusing pension fund Mercer Superannuation of misleading members about the sustainability of some of its investment options.
The SFDR defines sustainable investment as contributing to "an environmental or social objective", assessed by indicators such as use of raw materials or production of waste. The people Reuters spoke to said discrepancies among fund portfolios reflected a lack of clarity from the Commission over what constitutes a sustainable investment. Reuters GraphicsReuters GraphicsTEMPERATURE GAUGEMSCI, the finance industry data provider, has developed a way of checking on investment funds' green credentials with its ESG Implied Temperature Rise tool. Among them, for example, are BlackRock's Sustainable Energy Fund, Nordea's Global Climate and Environment Fund and Pictet's Global Environmental Opportunities Fund. "The characterisation of what constitutes a sustainable investment under the SFDR is also a concept that needs further clarifications at European level."
LONDON, March 9 (Reuters) - The European Union's financial watchdogs will test the financial sector's resilience to shocks that could derail the bloc's push to meet a 2030 deadline for slashing carbon emission. This will need extra investments totalling 350 billion euros ($370 billion) a year over this decade, not all sourced from the public sector, meaning a stable financial system will be needed for raising funds. "As part of this work, we would also appreciate any insights into the financial system’s capacity to support green investments under stress." Any "policy relevant" conclusions should be provided to the commission no later than the first quarter of 2025, Berrigan said. "Results should be as differentiated (notably by countries, types of financial institutions, economic sectors) as possible," he said.

BERLIN, Feb 5 (Reuters) - Germany's Economy Minister Robert Habeck has called for cooperation in green investments between Europe and the United States ahead of meetings in Washington next week with U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and other officials. "The USA is now gearing its economy towards green markets and driving forward cost reductions in the development of climate-friendly technologies," Habeck said. EU governments are worried the IRA could not only put European producers at an unfair disadvantage but lure investment away from Europe to the United States. They are likely to want to explore exceptions when the United States implements the plans. The talks will be focused on the U.S. subsidy package in the context of future trade relations between the EU and the United States.
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 (Reuters) - U.S. customs authorities said palm oil products made by Sime Darby Plantation <SIPL.KL> were no longer produced with forced labour, in a sign that a two-year import ban on the Malaysian firm will soon be lifted. Goods made by Sime Darby Plantation, the world's largest palm oil company by land size, have been blocked by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) from entering the United States since December 2020 over suspected abusive labour practices. Sime Darby said it was aware of the U.S. notice. Shares of Sime Darby Plantation eased 0.5% on Friday morning. Sime Darby Plantation is among eight Malaysian firms that have been banned by the United States in the past four years over forced labour allegations.
